Julep Maven

It’s no secret that when I still subscribed to Birchbox, the nail polish was often one of my favorite items included each month. Even though I’m pretty clueless in most respects when it comes to beauty and makeup, I do really like having a nice manicure. Lately, I haven’t gotten around to painting my nails nearly as often as I used to (but I’ve been trying to do them each Sunday now!), so when my friend Fran introduced me to Julep through her blog Franishh, I thought it’d be something fun to try for a couple of months.

Don’t worry, I’m not cool enough to get free things or be paid for these posts…yet. I just like sharing fun companies and products with other beauty-clueless individuals like myself.

There are a couple of things that I really like about Juelp that make it different than Birchbox. First of all, you can get your first box for $.01 (that would be one penny!) with the promo code MAVENINTRO. They always have free shipping for the boxes, and you can see what’s inside your box and choose to opt out without penalty if you don’t like the colors. The biggest downside is that each box is $19.99, but I guess that makes the ability to opt out even better if you’re tight on cash.

Another thing that I liked was the “style profile” quiz when you first sign up for Julep Maven. Sure, it’s a little hokey, but I’ve always loved personality quizzes. And I must say, this one got me so right. It was actually a little scary. Based on your preferences of clothing, shoes, handbags, hairstyles, and a couple of other random questions, you’re determined to fit into one of the following categories: American Beauty, Boho Glam, Bombshell, Classic with a Twist, or It Girl.

Surprise surprise, I’m a “Classic with a Twist”! Like I said, spot on. That enough was enough to sell me on trying this product.

Yep. I’d say that pretty much sums me up.

So I ordered my first box, for the price of basically free. And I was really happy with the product from the very first use! (A bit more about that when I show you this week’s mani on Monday!)

Here’s what I found when I opened it up:

“The Best Pedi Creme Ever”:

Sorry Kate is so blurry, my camera was having a hard time focusing with the white writing against white polish. But you get the idea. Super pretty colors! Doesn’t hurt that they’re also coincidentally the first names of a) my favorite actress and b) arguably one of the most iconic roles played by that actress in my favorite movie.

So far, I’m really impressed with Julep! If you want to give it a try, just follow this link!

  2. Kimberly,

I love your post! Congrats on getting married- I just got engaged myself and can’t wait to find out what married life is like.

…Back to the post- it is funny that you mention the names. You are completely correct. Julep names their polishes after influential women. Also, which color did you decide was your favorite? And have you decided to continue with the Julep Maven program?

    • Thanks for the comment, Alexandria! And congrats on your engagement, married life is pretty great!

I’m not sure which of these two colors I like best, but I am definitely continuing the Maven program and have already gotten a few more polishes through the Mystery Box and Flash Sale offered recently. Of all of the colors that I’ve gotten so far (I’m up to 8!), I think Maya is my favorite! But I’m also really loving Blake and Dakota. 🙂
